Red Version is upon us, and while we're giving the last touches to the new arcade firmware's song list page, have a gradual look at all the new launch songs in this update post!

Last update: Jul 14 | No of updates: 14 | No. of Songs: 579
Key: Red = series debutBlue = arcade debut

14) The last (but not least!) Red Version debut song is Namco Original Tengu Bayashi (4/7/7/9), the last Don Poin unlock for the new firmware (possibly made by Hisui?) whose Oni notecount sits at 734 notes. That's all, folks!
13) First video of Yume to Genjitsu no Kyoukai-sen (4/6/7/9), one of Red Version's new song that is unlockable through the Don Point system. 603 notes.
12) First video of Antonio (4/6/6/9), the Namco Original song from the You'll Melt More! unit. 724 notes on Oni.
11) First video of Time Traveler (2/3/4/6), Itou Kashitarou's Namco Original debut to Taiko no Tatsujin. The song's Oni mode has 489 notes.
10) First video of Minna ga Minna Eiyuu (2/3/4/6), the second of the Three Tarou songs coming to Taiko gaming as well as Red Version's other new launch J-POP. 242 notes on Oni.
9) First video of J-POP track 365 Nichi No Kami-Hikouki (3/3/4/5), featuring 251 notes on its Oni mode.
8) Kantan Papa Mama support confirmed for returning Anime song Kimi ni 100 Percent.
7) First video of Itsumo Nando Demo (2/1/2/1; Papa Mama support on Kantan), the latest Studio Ghibli-related song and concrete proof that a modern song on Taiko can be classed as a 1-star Oni without being a joke song! 229 notes on Oni.
6) First video of Start Line! (2/2/3/6; Papa Mama support on Kantan), the latest of the Aikatsu songs. 315 notes on Oni.
5) First video of Variety debut song Osakana Mainichi! Sakana-kun (2/4/4/7; Papa Mama support on Kantan), checking in with 340 notes.
4) First video of Ikenai Borderline (3/4/5/7; 390 notes on Oni), another Red Version launch song which is already gifted an Ura Oni (8*; 533 notes). As usual with Macross songs at launch, the copyrights deities make us unable to hear the actual song in these videos...
3) First video of newcomer Hatsune Miku song Ghost Rules (4/5/7/8; 505 notes on Oni), which also features a 9-star Ura Oni since its Taiko debut, made of 798 notes.
2) Red Version's Don Point unlocks consist of three Namco Original songs: the return of Ego Ego Atakushi and newcomers Yume to Genjitsu no Kyoukai-sen (夢と現実の境界線) and Tengu Bayashi (天狗囃子). Videos coming soon!
1) First video of Over Clock ~Kaihou~ (3/6/7/8), the first of the crossbeats REV SUNRISE collaboration songs. 596 notes on Oni.

Alongside the actual Red Version launch (which is occurring today!), we also have a blog entry by Etou which showcases some of the content that will be added in Red Version's first update, illustrated through the slides that have been shown during yesterday's Taiko Team livestream.

Before talking of that, however, here's a couple of extra details about the Red Version launch that have been either lightly talked about or simply forgot to tell during the Niconico broadcast.

First of all, the arcade Taiko gaming's official website has been updates with the Red Version-inspired aesthetics of the latest firmware, complete with the full details of the ongoing collaboration campaigns. Another aspect that Banapassport players can tinker with in their Donder Hiroba profile is the possibility to toggle White Version's Close Folder feature on or off, in case people are bothered with the aforementioned option appearing every 8-or-so songs while scrolling a song genre's track-list.

Now on to the actual future upgrade stuff! Starting with the lesser aspects, the next Red Version update will add the possibility to change the title card's background color to a variety of possibilities, together with the Summer Title Parts Gacha getting a revival with brand-new parts into the mix.

What the next update will mostly be about, however, is the latest console tie-in campaign, as a Dokodon Mystery Adventure event will grant people new songs and customization parts related to the latest Nintendo 3DS Taiko title.

More specifically, we're talking about 5 new songs (consisting of Utsukushiku Sewashiki Danube, 2 Game Music tracks and 2 Namco Originals) and a couple of Petit Charas. If you want to know what the other 4 songs are (outside of their genres), wait for the end of July for more details!

Both reward categories will involve people playing the songs available in Dokodon! Mystery Adventure; as such, a special folder with all the songs included in said game will be available, allowing people to spot them easily to earn the event's tickets.

In fact, to claim the Petit Charas above, players will have to use their 3DS 3 play tickets on their Donder Hiroba for a chance of getting Tia & Popokaka and resident NAMCO SOUNDS composer Linda AI-CUE as chibi companions for their Taiko avatars to enjoy.

As a way to end today's blog entry, we now have the NicoNico link to this Sunday's World Championship 2016 Finals broadcast, featuring, among other things, the guest appearance of Tatsuya Shimizu and his latest song for the tourney's winner, Amaterasu (天照). See you there!

Released on July 2016, Red Version is the 8th firmware board to arcade Taiko gaming 's third generation hardware model. Being labeled after a color, it's also the 6th main arcade iteration in a row to draw the inspiration for the title from the color spectrum.

Much like with White Version, this firmware came out with no actual new features at launch, by boosting the already-available track selection with new songs and collaboration events behind the horizon while expanding the customization options of Banapassport players as well.

Song of the Week! 16 July 2016

Long versions of original songs have always been a once-in-a-dime trait in the Taiko no Tatsujin series in general, ranging from less to more relevance thanks to either soundtracks and playable versions.

Although the latter aspect is seen more as a relic of the past these days, long versions of Namco Originals still keep popping up in some way or another! Today on our spotlight there's one of the latest songs following this trend.

You're reading right: there actually are modern theme songs outside of old classics like Nijiiro Yumeiro Taikoro and Hibike! Taiko no Tatsujin to have an extended version... and it's a very recent track, no less!

Composed by recurrent NAMCO SOUNDS musician Torine (トリ音), Sekai wa Itsudemo Mystery (lit. 'The World is Mystery at Any Time') is Dokodon Mystery Adventure's theme song, singing of what adventures can be experienced around the world in the game's titular Story mode. The singer of choice isn't a random selection either, as the female vocalist involved is also voice acting one of the game's main characters: the mysterious magician Tia.

This voice actress is none other than Honoka Inoue (井上ほの花), a singer who started contributing for the Taiko no Tatsujin series since the White Version arcade firmware's launch. Born on February 9th, she's the daughter of famed voice actress Kikuko Inoue (井上喜久子), with which she's also used to work together and offer jointed interviews. In the very same Dokodon! Mystery Adventure game, for example, Kikuko is the voice of Hexaglia member Deborah (nicely against Honoka as Tia)! At the time of Honoka's first contribution in the Taiko no Tatsujin series, she was one of the guest stars of December 2015's Taiko Team livestream, where she sung live her debut song Love Fantasy under the nickname of HONOKA. Later on, Honohana used different nicknames for later works, such as the CreoFuga-spawn Namco Original Netemo Netemo, where she's credited as Honoka♡Erika (ほのか♡えりか) alongside Erika Kaiho.

At the original time of this writing, Sekai wa Itsudemo Mystery is one of the latest Namco Original songs to date, so it's easy to assume that no external album media outlet contains this song yet. However, the very same 3DS game happens to be hosting a longer version of the song, waiting in the Credits montage that players will be awarded with by completing the Story mode (link).

While light on the notecount side, this theme song's Oni mode will keep players engaged with as many notes as days in a regular year, thatnks to small clusters that follow both 1/12 and 1/16 signatures.

Literature Review: On Taiko no Tatsujin Olympics Exhibition

In the new Literature Review format, we briefly summarize and link to a selection of editorial post (i.e. not press releases) like interviews with the team during events.

Remember when we preview about a Hong Kong shopping centre hosting a large-scale Taiko no Tatsujin exhibition featuring actual cabinets for free-play? Yeah, the Hong Kong person haven't got time for exclusive original report, but one day I swear.

In for the occasion, series producer Ken Nakadate and visual design lead Takehito Sasaoka travelled all the way to oversee the event. Some of Hong Kong's lifestyle magazine editorial got in touch with them and conducted interviews.

Coinciding with visit by top-class Hong Kong Donders, including WCS2016 Hong Kong representative Ghost, some of the reporters also got to talk to them on general Dondership and their rise to expertise.

The event still has one-and-a-half month to it, ending on August 31 2016. The pop-up merch store opens only on Fridays through Sundays.

天照 Amaterasu (858 notes on ★10 Oni) NEW!
Tatsh a.k.a 世阿弥 Tatsh a.k.a Zeami
Let's preface with this: it is multiple folds easier than Yuugen no Ran, and champion Yosuga (second time now) can and have DFCed it on the first reveal. The teased exhibition song plays at over 200 BPM with mostly rather-long 16th streams and some scattered 24ths.

Amaterasu is coming to your local AC0R in a future update. (at least confirmed for Japan)

VICTORIA (858 notes on ★10 Oni) NEW!
   Cranky
The third-place playoff features the first reveal of the unannounced composition by Cranky, on the same surprise factor as Yumeiro Coaster back in 2010. Highly mixed streams and inconsistent speeding patterns buries multiple places to easily break combos, like it did to minamitori (4th) ending with a -120 difference to iwagon (3rd).

Coincidentally it also has the same Oni notecount and rating as our other new song of the day. It is unsure if the all-ones KFM rating are just a placeholder or actually serious.

It is also announced here that Cranky's composition conflict NEW! will also hit AC0R soon. If you did not know it, we talked about its multiple previous appearances in other rhythm games in this Sympho-Neighbors feature.

English translation
The first time I met you,
It was like a soft breeze blown towards myself.

I could not help but smile in the fun.

Meeting with you, leaving from you,
As the same days repeats continually for however many days,
I began to feel like sinking into sadness.

Sincerely I think transient things are just wandering things,
Like birds building nests in the wind,
Continuously squealing without end,
Without departure, my heart of affection drifts away

Sincerely I think transient things are just wandering things,
Like birds building nests in the wind,
Continuously squealing without end,
Without departure, my heart of affection drifts away

3DS3 Update: When the Song Go Marching Away

Remember how 3DS2 has a song preview bug? It is fixed on the way to 3DS3, probably having no relation to the sacrifice of 3D effects and one save slot. What it does give you is a new bug to play with!

Basically, if you press the MENU button during a song to go to the 3DS main menu then come back, the pausing apparently does not happen to the music and it will keep going. From here the bug goes two ways:

  1. Resume before the song is fully played: the chart snaps back to where it should be, and whatever in between are counted as missed. If you have Auto turned on, you can make Mekadon fail a song and reveal that Mekadon does not have a failure spoken line or speech bubble set in the game.
  2. Let the song finish playing: the chart goes on normally, letting you play pretty much normally except with the absence of the song.
This glitch actually has opened the possibility of a new challenge of playing despite music disappearing, or even without the drum sound either for maximum rhythmic trial.
(which is basically what you'd normally get by turning the system's volume OFF, but whatever)

In story mode front, like in 3DS2 Chapter 5 it is possible that you can lose the dinghy boat (i.e. your only mode of transport) in the cave, in 3DS3 Chapter 4 Don-chan can be stuck in one of the tents in Yamatai-koku. With autosave now available, falling into this hole of the map apparently is only solvable by force-quitting as soon as possible, or even restart the whole story mode savedata if it is too late.

After being included for a special battle in Yokai Watch 2, Don-chan is back in the Level-5 RPG world of Yokai Watch 3 Sushi/Tempura for more battles with your new Yokai pals! Without getting into the specific Yokai Watch mechanics here, the battles appears to be available once daily. This reflects back to 3DS3 once again featuring Yokai Watch collaboration elements, similar to the 3DS2/YW2 tie-in.

After the battles, why not relax yourself with a minigame featuring a spinning disk-thing catching notes under the rhythms of Fuunshishi (using actual Kantan and Muzukashii charts)? (Wonder why Fuunshishi is getting so much attention lately though.)

Last week has been a busy one on the livestream front, between the Red Version Launch broadcast and the thrilling conclusion of the World Championships 2016. If you've missed any of these events, we're still here to fill the gaps with the usual commentary and visuals... for real, this time!

Starting with the livestream's pre-portion, tensions are already high, with a Red Version cabinet lingering behind the Taiko Team hosts from the very beginning!

But, as usual, the pre-livestream segment has mostly been for live interactions with the Nicovideo viewers, between asking questions and answering some small polls. One of the last broadcast's inquires were about the surroundings of the room where the Taiko Team livestreams are run, which Takemoto and Anne were eager to showcase by filming the immediate surroundings of the floor.

Don't trust the used camera's data - this was filmed live during the Wednesday pre-portion!

When Anne was been asked of how she's training for the future broadcasts' host duties, here's a little piece of dedication of her: Taiko-styled nail polish!

Coming to Etou's polls, the topic for this iteration was about the most popular fan-given abbreviation of the Taiko no Tatsujin series, with the more simple 'Taiko' leading the crowd. Better luck next time, Don...Game?

With the actual livestream's beginning, we are already greeted to the final news corner about last Sunday's WCS2016 Finals.

At this point, we'd usually describe what has been said in the Taiko Team's slides about the event, but since said Finals have already happened, why don't you have a look for yourself instead?

The video above is one of the many on Youtube which has recorded the whole Finals showdown in a single, long sitting! If you have more that 5 hours to spare and want to have a (digital) seating for yourself, here's the video for you.

For a quick synopsis of the brand-new content announcements and reveals, we have the newcomer tracks from Tatsh and cranky (which we also talked about here) as well as the announcement of the next Taiko Team livestream to take place on August 19th, aimed on Dojo Ranking talks and more collaborations for Red Version.

The Wednesday livestream still had some exclusive content to talk about in the softer side, such as a collection of lovely snapshots from the tournament's pre-Finals segments!

Have also a closer look at the WCS2016 finalists' awards, with the 4th-to-2nd glass plates and the winner's multi-color trophy!

The Finals' block round formation has also been decided live during the Wed. broadcast, with Etou drawing a finalist's name on the pictured white box and the relative block among one of the many cards on the table, eventually completing the whole grid live.

And now, Red Version time!

With the latest arcade firmware being out, the real news to us on the song list department is the group of songs that have become default tracks on Red Version, consisting of the Synchronica/Taikai time-limited campaigns and White Version's Don Point unlocks.

After the song list details, there has been the parade of guest outfit unlocks, starring the four already-known pairings and an external, never-heard-before campaign on the bottom...

Related to the Sakana-san collaboration on the seaside spectrum is a small partnership with Bandai Namco's medal game Fishing Spirits, where Taiko drums with different outfits will start appearing for everyone to fish out. Keep an eye for the most valuable ones: Jingly Rope Don and Katsu!

For the collaboration news talk, the Taiko Team was joined by quite the unexpected guest: CROSSxBEATS series director Naoki Maeda (also pictured in this post's beginning)!

Naoki's appearance has a sense too, as Red Version will partake in a 2-parter music game collaboration, with the two involved songs swapping franchises between July and August. On Taiko grounds there's a slight update as well, as both songs will net Banapassport-exclusive Petit Charas if played before August 2016's end!

With the already-available Over Clock ~Kaihou~ giving out the Petit Chara version of Akatsuki from the original crossbeats REV. arcade, the first SAKURA EXHAUST play on Taiko will give out the PC of Chan, the mascot of the current crossbeats arcade version (REV. SUNRISE).

Roughly at the same time of the Team playing a demo of the CxB song, Capcom's arcade Youtube account has published the full playable version of Rio Hamamoto's SAKURA EXHAUST, with a portion of each of the song's 4 modes being played in a row. It also has a very Taiko-esque background to show off!

The last Taiko portion of the Wednesday livestream has seen the appearance of two overly-energetic Bandai Namco employees, talking about the Macross Delta collab we've already heard about before. Aside for a Macross-themed lottery and 5 mystery unlocks that are also being listed in the campaign's page, there's not that much else to talk about.

Ending the run was the 1-hour long portion of the Synchronica Team (with Daifuku) talking about the music game's first major update, occurring this coming Thursday. While we state once again that this Synchronica portion didn't have any Taiko-related tie-in content in particular, there are a couple of side topics worth mentioning for the Synchronica content already in Taiko.

First of all, it has been revealed that New World, one of the crossed-over songs in Taiko, is the next subject of the fabled Pandora mode, the April Fools difficulty setting that is going to be become an official one with the next update, with this Classic arrangement bearing what currently is the highest-rated mode in the game to date.

To celebrate, Daifuku played the song (on Easy) alongside what probably is Synchronica's pitch-in mascot of sorts... a dude wearing a deer mask. No joking!

If you've liked the Synchronica inclusions in Taiko so far, this last bit of news might catch your interest, as Bandai Namco is partnering with SuperSweep Records for a Synchronica soundtrack, including all of the original firmware's Bandai Original/Classic songs (plus the Touhou Arrange by Taku Inoue)! First-printings will come out on August 20th, featuring an extra DVD with a music video of Tenkaichi Otogesai song Yoake Made Ato 3-byou and the making-of the game's original songs. Regular CD-only printings will begin on September 30th.

Now that our double-livestream feature is over, there's a full month of Red Version to enjoy before the next broadcast will be aired! See you then.

Hands up if you've never heard of Doraemon before! Nope, I don't expect to see many; the rotund, blue robot cat from the future is as much of a beloved icon around the world as characters like Pikachu and Mickey Mouse. Like a few other evergreen animation series hailing from Japan, Doraemon is blessed with a feature film release every single year since 1980, without fail (except for in 2005 when the anime series transitioned to a newer generation but that's a story for a later date). As of 2016, there are a whopping thirty-eight Doraemon films, and this song is from the odd one out; the only Doraemon film that is 3D CG animation instead of the usual 2D.

Released in August 2014, Stand By Me (no, not the song by Ben E. King) is not a replacement to the annual 2D offerings, but a completely different project; another 2D film was released in the same year. This movie followed a digest version of the entire timeline of Doraemon's time with Nobita. The big hook of the movie was that, since Doraemon was sent from the future to help Nobita through his studies and life in general, what would happen if Nobita no longer needed that help? Doraemon, having fulfilled his mission, would have to go back to the future. And with literally decades of friendship forged throughout the anime and manga, you can guess how emotional a moment this would be. How does it end? You can probably guess it, but no spoilers from us!

Being a special Doraemon film with genuine heart-rending moments, Stand By Me: Doraemon was a huge, huge commercial success, releasing officially in 59 countries across the globe and took box office records in both the US and in Japan. It won an admirable number of film awards too. Motohiro Hata sang Himawari no Yakusoku (lit. Sunflower's Promise) as the ending theme; its single also posted incredibly high on the billboards chart thanks to the success of Stand By Me.

It's a lovely song, but one look at the super-low BPM is enough to make some players groan, as this means notes will be scrolling at really low speed. To rub it in even more, on the Oni chart, the first half of the song scrolls at x0.5, making it only second to Donkama 2000's final note in terms of slowest scroll ever. But don't go selecting Baizoku just yet; the scroll speed of Himawari no Yakusoku gradually increases to 1.0, then 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and finally to x3, so players will have to contend not just with patiently reading low speed notes, but also reacting to high speed ones. The speed pattern is similar to another old song in the J-Pop genre, 366日which also pulls the same gimmick.

Get past the scroll shenanigans and it's actually a pretty enjoyable 7* Oni with simple note patterns, and has the lowest notecount among 7* Oni in the new difficulty, below Do You Want To Build A Snowman's 247 notes.

Taiko no Tatsujin x Rakuten Eagles

You know the marketing effort for Taiko is getting super heated up when it shacks up with a baseball team of all things!

From July 22nd to August 28th, there will be a collaboration event at the Miyagi Baseball Stadium, which hapens to be the Rakuten Eagles' home base. Don-chan will show up on the big screens during baseball games at this time to act as cheerleader!

Kind of like this. Pretty neat eh? Pretend those big notes are baseballs and knock them all out of the park!

That aside, a pop-up store will be at the stadium to sell exclusive merchandise with Don-chan in his nice new Rakuten Eagles uniform.

This includes keychains (as shown above), clear files and other goodies. If you happen to be in the area (and are a big fan of Japanese baseball), why not go have a look? You might be scoring yourself some really nice souvenirs!

Details of the collab can be found here.

Seven whole items to cover in this big update, whew! Let's see what's in the gift box for arcade players this coming month.
First off, new songs! Everyone loves new songs!

New Songs
Try Everything (トライ・エヴリシング)New!
Zootopia
ChouzetsuDynamic (超絶☆ダイナミック!) New!
Dragon Ball Super
Orb no Inori (オーブの祈り)New!
Ultraman Orb
Ikari o Kure yo (怒りをくれよ)Arcade Debut

Kessen!! (決戦!!)Revival
Puzzle & Dragons Z
SAKURA EXHAUSTNew!
Amaterasu (天照)New!
Tatsh a.k.a Zeami

Some expected Namco Original songs and new licenses, some a surprise! Kessen!! being revived in the arcade space is nice (though whether it stays there permanently this time is another question), and the one licensed song that stands out among the rest has to be Try Everything, the theme song to Disney's Zootopia, which came out earlier this year to much fanfare, even in Japan. I guess it's no surprise since Namco have already secured rights for Frozen's songs before! It'll most likely be the Japanese version however, so, sorry if there are any Shakira fans around.

Second on the list is a collaboration with the new One Piece movie, ONE PIECE FILM GOLD.

Play its theme song, Ikari o Kureyo, from the date of the update to September 4th and get this Rufy-based costume! The song will also get its own folder on the songlist to further highlight its importance (and for maximum ad revenue, of course)!

Always in collaboration news is a welcomed addition for the ever-lasting Sentai series' fans, as a brand new title will let players unlock the Zyuoh Eagle (ジュウオウイーグル) by playing Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger once.

And now, prepare to break out your Magic Stones savings, because another collab on the cards is with Puzzle and Dragons yet again!

Gather all eight Puchi-chara from the game from the day of the update to September 13th! This also includes Tamazo X Don-chan, which is coming to Taiko Dokodon! Mystery Adventure as a party member.

Speaking of that game, the blog also covers the Dokodon! Mystery Adventure event, but we've done that in another post, together with the news on customizable title backgrounds (those were on the latest livestream for Taiko Red). What is new are the five songs available from the 3DS3 event, all revealed! They are:

August 8th: Mada Saitama 2000 (まださいたま2000)
August 15th: Good-bye my earth
August 22nd: Utsukushiku Sewashiki Danube (美しく忙しきドナウ)
August 29th: Lightning Dance
September 5th: Tabaneito (束ね糸)

Last but not least, with server maintenance coming to a close, the team is happy to announce that from Game Version 1.10 onwards, players will once again be able to send challenges to their friends and organize competitions of their own!

Game Version 1.10 will go live on August 3rd, 2016. More on that date!

Now that the Taiko x One Piece collaboration has been openly advertised by Bandai Namco in everything Taiko-related, it's time to frame the whole picture of what mobile players will get out of the event for their Taiko mobile app.

Starting from our latest Taiko+ news outlet from last Sunday, all Taiko+ players on both Apple and Android devices can play One Piece Flim Gold's theme song -Ikari o Kure yo (怒りをくれよ)- free of charge from the movie's release date (which was last Saturday, July 23rd) to September 4th, during which time frame players will also be able to try their luck at the app's Lottery for a chance of a promotional wallpaper.

If that's not enough One Piece for you to enjoy in one piece (sorry I couldn't resist), both app versions' Gakkyoku Tori Houdai mode has added five returning songs from the popular Anime series last Saturday for everyone to enjoy: Kokoro no Chizu, Jungle P, BRAND NEW WORLD, HANDS UP! and Wake up!.

Apple Taiko players are also given the option to purchase two promotional song packs with 4 songs each: the Anime Pack GOLD (アニメぱっくGOLD) including four never-on-the-app-before One Piece songs (Ikari o Kure yoKokoro no ChizuJungle PBRAND NEW WORLD) and the Anime Pack SILVER (アニメぱっくSILVER), featuring for songs from the Anime that are already featured in formerly-released packs from the Popular Song Pack line (We Are!We Go!HANDS UP!Wake up!). Please remember that buying the SILVER pack doesn't supply refunds for the songs that have already been acquired through the former song packs, and vice-versa (aka buying the Pop Song Pack 5/18/14/18 beforehand doesn't net any discounts for the SILVER pack).

The Japanese Midnight has come, and right at the end of this Wednesday are also the first videos of the battle theme from the latest couple of Puzzle & Dragons titles for the Nintendo 3DS.

Much like the previous P&D songs, it's quite the short challenge with 1/16 note clusters that can still bring on a fight with them. Watch out for the change of pace at the end!
