English translation
A voice lighting the darkest nights, words of worship carved onto stone caves
Disobeying heaven is the shaman's arm, embracing the descendant of Himiko
Invitingly

Footsteps of impurity echo, the miraculous flame burns
Left lingering in the world of the living, the innocent spirits of the dead

Revengeful souls, release your spiritual powers, gather to the bait, the underworldly gods
To Taka-ama-hara, the ancestral god and goddess, and the eight million gods
A desire to be out of the shrine, under the night sky of two, for the great purification please, Izanami
⎱ To Taka-ama-hara, gods sit in still, the stars shook for the great purification please, Izanami

Shadows of nightfall, showing predictions turning ominous
⎰ This life disappears into perishment
Shadows fallen from the heart, the world disappears into perishment

The cliff tearing off, into the bottom of the valley, all has gone swallowed

⎰ Trembling souls be heard, granted in purification
⎱ Yelling in a touch of hand, the taint of the misfortune brushed away, granted in purification
Let this world rise in light and power, grip onto the heavens
turning into blood, Izanami of the underworld, ahh
Amaterasu-oomikami, Susanoo-no-mikoto, the heavenly gods now grip onto the heavens
to return to the land, Izanami of the underworld, ahh

Song of the Week! 13 August 2016

I'm back now, I'm back now! In case you weren't aware, the majority of the Taiko Time team is actually on vacation IRL this week too (scheduled posts and mobile editing curtained that well enough, I hope). Now in hurry to push a fresher Saturday feature, I am just grabbing something that has the tad bit of connection to what we'll be doing later this month.

Roppongi (六本木) is a district in Tokyo famous for night life, as well as the location to find the rich high-rises of Roppongi Hills and multiple foreign embassies. The subtitle here actually works like the Season Dragons Series where it indicates that you should be reading 六本木 as "Giroppon", when jumbling the kanas around appears to be a fashionable and hip way to call places in some Japanese circles.

The song is of the mood kayou genre, that is kinda like enka but not the same in strict genre sense, with influences from jazz and Latin. The genre is the signature for singer Nezumi Senpai (鼠先輩, lit. "mouse senior"). GIROPPON was written subsequent of Nezumi Senpai's rather rough start in his love live. He, having to leave his girlfriend at the age of 20 and cut off all means of communication, made a promise to meet again under the Tokyo Tower in 10 years' time. The reunion happened finally in 2003 but Nezumi Senpai was rejected in his confession of love on the spot. GIROPPON came from his experiences and sentiments in the whole string of events. Nezumi Senpai confesses his love again at his artiste debut and single release in 2008 and has been married to her since. The song later received an English cover by Andrew W.K. in his 2008 album The Japan Covers (full of, as titled, J-POP covers).

For some reason though, the song took a weird turn after the second chorus, where all the lyrics just became only "po-po-po" of increasing putch for more than a full minute. The part in question did not appear in Taiko no Tatsujin because the cover cuts after the first chorus.

The chart is a fairly standard ★5 for the second generation, with mostly 8th separation and some straightforward 16th clusters of ddd's, kkk's and ddk's. Patterns that repeats similarly for 2-3 times also make it friendly by giving chance to adjust. Following the song the last lyric takes into 6th and 12th mixes, in what I say a good time for exposure at this level.

======
So what is the thing "we'll be doing later this month"? Let me just say that the name for Roppongi (lit. "six trees/piece of wood") came from either the six great trees that used to stand and mark the area, or the purported legend that six daimyos, all with connections with tree/wood (木) or kinds of trees in their surname, used to base around the place.

Song of the Week! 20 August 2016

Last week, nigelliusnitrox has left some hints to what's coming to our blog in the near future, but being already in mid-August we might as well reveal what the motif is: our humble Taiko Time blog is up and active for over 6 years! It surely is a rocky coaster ride for us, but each of our passengers's loyality -present and past- makes it a totally worth one :D

So, what are we going to see today, then? Given how last week we had a Taiko 12 song (which by thin trivia stretching we could claim as planned due to Taiko 6's 12th birthday in 2016), let's cut to the chase with something big coming from the 6th arcade itself!

Katsushika Rhapsody ~Yamu Yamu Version~ (葛飾ラプソディー ~ヤムヤムVersion~) Kochikame

While for Taiko means this song in particular doesn't hold that big of a legacy for the franchise for being one of the 1st Taiko generation's last new Anime licenses alone, it surely is a worthy representative of one of Japan's biggest behemoths in Manga lore! This song is one of the opening themes of the 1996-started Anime series of Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen Mae Hashutsujo (こちら葛飾区亀有公園前派出所), Shonen Jump's long-running Manga series by Osamu Akimoto (秋本治) which is often shortened to Kochikame (こち亀).

The full title's literal translation is "This is the police station in front of Kameari Park in Katsushika Ward", which on itself already sets the location of this Japanese longtime-popular comedy series; scened in the present day, Kochikame is about the many misadventures in the everyday life of the police officers in the aforementioned fictional Tokyo police station, with the main focus being on the middle-aged cop Kankichi "Ryo-san" Ryotsu and his many schemes for easy money gains by exploiting new gadget creations and/or ongoing trends and fads. For the author himself, the series is his ongoing homage to Japan's working class and old Tokyo districts.

Kochikame's manga series was started on September 1976 on Weekly Shonen Jump, where it's being serialized with new chapters being released non-stop since its inception, even to this day! Up to this page's original posting date, the manga counts over 1800 chapters being featured in nearly 200 tanbokons published by Shueisha, making it the manga series with the highest number of volumes, as well as one of Japan's best-selling manga series with nearly 158 million copies sold overall. With such a long-lasting appeal to the series, Kochikame has been the subject of different kinds of media, including stage plays and animated productions by Studio Gallop, which consist of the aforementioned Anime series (lasting from 1996 to 2004), two animated movies and several TV specials, the latest of which is coming up on September this year in occasion of the series' 40th anniversary. Ryo-san himself also managed to cross the comic boundaries multiple times with other popular Jump series, be it for either special anniversary chapters or Shonen Jump's fighting videogames, with the Nintendo DS's Jump Super Stars/Jump Ultimate Stars couple and the more recent J-Stars Victory VS!

Cannonball-ing back into the song talk, Katsushika Rhapsody is the 2nd opening theme for Kochikame's Anime transposition, composed and performed by Osaka ska composer Kohei Dojima (堂島孝平). The one we can find in Taiko gaming, however, is actually a remake version which is used as the series' 7th and final OP, performed by the 1999 Japanese ska band known as Yum!Yum!ORANGE.

Back in the day, high BPM value for a song wasn't necessarily translated into a balls-to-the-wall hard or tiring Oni challenge; YYO's Katsushika Rhapsody is another valid exhibit on Taiko to the point with its nearly cluster-less notechart and sparse drumrolls, mostly aimed to let less experienced players practice handswitching at higher speeds.

Another of the Taiko Team-announced song series, this cycle of songs has begun during the life span of the Taiko no Tatsujin White Version arcade firmware, with the objective of making original songs that are referencing the Japanese mythology, be it with the title alone or with the song's actual lyrics and themes as well. For the first time in Taiko arcade gaming, this is the very first song series to be formed and grouped into its dedicated custom folder, whose title has soon be adopted as this collection of songs' very own series name.

While on this page we'll be primarily focusing our attentions on the songs themselves (and the artists behind those), you can find out more facts about the involved Japanese mythology tropes and figures in our multi-parter Feature series (Part 1 - Part 2).

The God Collection series was started as a couple of songs that were simultaneously released for White Version's launch, featuring new-coming talents from the hardcore techno music production club known as HARDCORE TANO*C, the very same one where t+pazolite is one of the main members.

Holding the name of one of Japan's three Imperial Regalia/Sacred Treasures, the full-instrumental track KUSANAGI is made by the nick-named aran, owner of the Otographic Music label and one of the aforementioned club's latest members (joining in 2009). Born in the Saitama prefecture, his creations tend to gravitate around the UK Hardcore style, while also jumping around other musical genres from time to time and, in recent years, taking commissions for the creation of music in other media. One of his first works for rhythm gaming lies in the Groove Coaster song VOLT, with which KUSANAGI is sharing multiple sound samples. Always on Taiko-related grounds, aran also made a remix of t+pazolite's Shiny Kung-fu Revival, which was released in 2015's Ponko2 Girlish CHS album.  For more informations about aran and his works, there are his Twitter and Soundcloud pages.

Despite being a 9* Oni, KUSANAGI's chart is able to pull out some serious curve balls to even the most experienced of players, thanks to its tiring cluster successions and its nasty 1/24 cluster stunts ready to break the combos of those who either don't hit them fast enough or don't properly hand-switch in order to carry on with the following 1/16 portion. For its console debut, KUSANAGI has been used as a boss fight track against the Quetzalcoatl in Dokodon! Mystery Adventure's Story mode.

For an original composition titled after the mythological kami of fire, yet another couple of talents from the HARDCORE TANO*C club came forth to take on the Taiko bounty.

Kagutsuchi's creators are the composing duo of Ryosuke Tachibana (橘亮祐) and JAVELIN (most commonly known as 'Jenkins.C'), who together are known as the Massive New Krew. Founded in 2008, the unit was mainly a DJ set duo until the year 2011, when they began composing hardstyle track albums under the Massive Circlez label with original creations, where their use of the "bouncing" heavy bass has been a trademark of their for nearly every single song. In a 2015 interview, they revealed that the choice behind their unit's name was made because of the Massive New Krew's initial-based abbreviation (MNK) stands for "something dirty". If you want to know more about the unit's works, there are Massive New Krew's Soundcloud page and the individual Twitter accounts of Tachibana and Jenkins.C.

Much like aran, Massive New Crew's creation have been featured in other forms of media, including the anime series of SHOW BY ROCK! and Groove Coaster with the couple of songs VELVET and Shiva. For the Taiko-related lore, both Tachibana and Jenkins.C were invited to one of the Taiko Team's livestreams together with aran and t+pazolite, in order to talk about their debut Taiko track. Later on, Massive New Krew also made an extended version of Kagutsuchi, which is featured in their Massive CircleZ BEST album.

Being a Dokodon! Mystery Dungeon boss track against the Viper Orochi (as well as a serious Dojo Ranking accuracy nightmare on White Version), Kagutsuchi's Oni mode retains a similar difficulty degree to aran's KUSANAGI, with its notechart recipe featuring more 1/24 clusters at a slower-paced base BPM.

This series's continuation has happened some months after White Version's launch and -just like in that instance- two songs were released at the same time for the newborn series, courtesy of returning composers from the IOSYS doujin circle.

The first of the two songs was composed by D.watt, with Yuuya Kobayashi as Np Hiko Inuta (Np 犬田彦) being the lyricist and monotone member Yamamoto Momiji (山本椛) as the singer. This is one of those tracks where the title already gives out its lyrics' topic in advance (literally meaning 'Private Takama-ga-hara Gakuen High School ・ School Song'), with father of gods Izanagi being the teacher in the fable heavenly grounds' most prestigious institute to the entirety of 1st-generation Japanese gods (神産み, Kamiumi) and islands (国産み, Kumiumi).

According to D.watt in an interview released for a Taiko Team blog entry, the radio-styled song came out from the canned project of a sequel song to IOSYS Aki no Nikushoku Matsuri 2014. with the hardest part of the project being the creation of a lyrics set that can make its listeners feel the "serious fun" of Izanagi in his teaching position while dealing with his many students.

The Oni notechart mostly relies on standard 1/16, but -once again- the adding of an averagely-high base BPM can turn out to be crucial for players to overcome in order to to be stamina'd out by the Izanagi-speaking portions. The students' raw call is the main deal, as some 1/24 clusters may or may not sneak their way in, too!

And the winner for the longest Taiko no Tatsujin song subtitle goes to...

Silliness aside, My Muscle Heart is Yuuya Kobayashi's God Collection track, once again starring Yamamoto Momiji for the main singing role with D.watt as Shichijou Lettuce the lyricist. The tone for this song is quite the different one from D.watt's Japanese God-related song, as the ancient lore has been taken as an inspiration to pitch an opening theme for a fictional Anime series starring magical muscular girl Takeminakata-chan, which is joined after the pilot by Takemikazuchi in her battles for the defense of the town of Ashihara-no-Nakatsu-chou (葦原中町, kinda like Ashihara-no-Nakatsu-Kuni but a town) from external threats.

On the very same Taiko Team blog entry mentioned before, D.watt has pitched this fake Anime series' pilot episode, in order to give a little bit of context to the dialogue that can be heard in the song. The human Nakata Takemi (武御ナカタ) is a young freshman at the first year of junior high whose main interests are sports and muscle training. One day a Kazuchi Takemi (健美カヅチ) hails from an unknown land, befriending Nakata but is actually here to claim control of the town. Nakata, following the cue by Shiro-usagi the bunny fairy (transformed into a mascot charm to protect Nakata, returning the favor of her father), transformed into the muscular magical girl (including protein yogurt and a half-baked transforming spell). She takes on Kazuchi in a contest of strength (in a form resembling the predecessor of sumo) and wins defying the legend (literally). Kazuchi cries in defeat and swears of not returning without winning Nakata. The song ends with Kazuchi joins Nakata's homeroom class at the school, embarking on the twisting plot of the (non-existent) series.

My Muscle Heart's Oni mode where the Go-Go Time portions trump the non-highlighted segments in the length department, almost entirely featuring 1/16 cluster formations along the way.

One of White Version's public swan songs (as well as said firmware's very last Don Challenge reward), Yomi no Izanami (lit. 'Izanami of Hades') is the tale of shaman-queen of Yamataikoku Himiko's grandson and her close friend singing about the tragic fate that has occurred to Izanagi's godly spouse Izanami. It's also the bearer of a rare and interesting backstory concerning the very employment of the people being hired for the creation of the song, as revealed by a Taiko Team blog entry!

This is a story involving the two singers behind this song: independent singers Shinno Aya (真野綾) and Yabuki Takane (矢吹高音), the latter of which can also be heard in Namco Original Takara no Oka. The two singers are actually long-time friends in real life after 10 years of dating, so it was an even m,errier surprise for both to see that not only the other friend made the cut for Bandai Namco's job application, but that the two would perform together for the very same song! The composer is Production GIW's Hisui (翡翠), which for the song is diverging from his usual style to make a more traditional 4/4 tempo with progressive rock vibes. On the lyrics department, instead, we have another couple of well-known Taiko names: Giu (祇羽) and Yura Hatsuki (葉月ゆら). Each of the two gave its own mark to Yomi no Izanami in different ways with their words; while the former took care to give individuality to the song's main characters with their words reflecting their own personas (Himiko's grandson being dark and mysterious and her friend speaking in old, traditional celebratory terms), the latter refined the whole song's musicality in order to make it more mystical and fantasy-sounding.

Yomi noi Izanami is a tale for the ages in the 8-star Oni tier, as this is the first song of said rating bearing the Ban-Nam note counter, mixing the regular 1/16 rhythms with the experimental, fast-paced 1/12 and 1/24 clusters that can be spotted towards the end.

Closing the circle of the God Collection (in White Version, at the very least) is the fabled Amaterasu, an instrumental song titled after the major Shinto goddess of the sun and the universe. Dropping the two most used aliases for the song's subtitle with the 'also known as' link, this is the track by Tatsuya Shimizu (清水達也) that made its premiere as the World Championship 2016 winner's exclusive track, with Yosuga -the returning champion from the 2013/2014 tournament- dropping live a Donder-Full Combo in front of the astonished live audience of the event! A month later, the song has been made available to public Taiko Red Version arcades through the firmware's very first update.

While cheesing through a perfect run for the 2016 Taiko world champion has been proven as a concrete reality, your average Taiko player may find the many clusters running at 200 BPM more and more tiresome, despite the cluster formations's hard-to-read factor not being on par with exotic cluster formations appearing in many of his former Taiko creations. The Oni's Max Note count also appears to be the same one of VICTORIA, Cranky's debut Namco Original which also made its premiere at the World Championship 2016.

With this year's Summer season still going strong, Bandai Namco's Taiko and Synchronica teams have joined their forces once more for a nearly-4-hour broadcast, in order to spotlight the most-immediately incoming content for both series.

Of course, being a Taiko blog we're going to focus more on the former, but who knows if the 2nd block might have some surprises along the way...?

Starting from the pre-livestream portion, its highlight peak is the Dojo Ranking raw call (in video form) for the players of the White Version edition, while Kagutsuchi and many Zeami songs are played in the background. This time around, the appearance of ≠MM has blocked all the attempts for a Tatsujin gold clear, but a group of energetic players managed to beat the hardest trial anyways!

After the break and into the 'real portion', some more graphs are displayed to reveal the full statistics of White Version DR clears (between Normal and Gold ones) in both pie and stack forms.

But enough looking at the past- here's a meaty teaser for Red Version's own Dojo Ranking mode!

Before the actual new changes/tweaks, we are greeted with a few recap slides explaining the mode for newcomers, such as for the fact that it's a full-credit play mode with three songs and a selection of trials of 3 songs to clear while clearing up to 3 objectives.

Pairing the mode is the return of the Banapassport-exclusive Taiko School, which will lend aid to players trying to clear the last-failed trial (or the next one after a victorious play) with a selection of songs aimed to improve the players' skills for their next big challenge.

This time around, Red Version's Taiko School will also host some new features, such as tips to clear the actual trials and up to 25 songs from recently-released home console/portable Taiko titles on which players can practice before tackling the arcade mode once again.

In a peak of generosity, the Taiko Team has fully unveiled the course content of the easier half of Dojo Ranking trials, complete with both songs involved and Normal Clear criteria condition. These hints, however, are only good until Godan...

...as from Rokudan onwards the tables have some blackened-out areas to figure out when Red Version's Dojo Ranking actually comes out! Down there, for example, we can see that 2 out of 3 clear conditions are not visible.

For the following 4 ranks, instead, even some of (if not all!) the songs' names have been covered, only giving out some highly sped-up audio cues as hints to the mystery songs' identity.

That, however, didn't stop the work of some dedicated Taiko fans on Youtube, who have recorded the Dojo Ranking portion and slowed it down to nearly x0.135 its original speed to figure out what the mystery songs are! The video below sheds some light to the mystery tunes with the slowed-down audio cues as confirmation.

If you want to hear more about the Kurouto-and-up courses, you'll have to wait for the DR mode to be out in the future, as the Taiko Team ended the segment with a simple reminder of the hardest courses' existence.

Actually, that wasn't the true end of the portion, as Etou had to warn Taiko fans about the arcade alignment of a couple of planets! Starting from Saturday 20th and up until the next month, Namco Original Gekkabijin and Classic song Mars will be temporarily added to Red Version arcades for everyone to enjoy.

DISCLAIMER: During the livestream it hasn't been clarified whether these songs also appear on Asian White Version or not, but we can confirm that both songs do appear overseas as well, thanks to the listing of Japanese Taiko wiki wikihouse.
EDIT: Asian ver. White ver. announcement confirms.

Ending this portion is Etou playing Godan live with an early-updated Red Version build. Tensions were high until the very end, but the Taiko Team leader scored a Normal Clear despite some struggles with Rumble Ranbu!

When Etou comes back to the hosts' desk, someone else seems to have taken Etou's seat...

...but before chatting with the newly-arrived guest, enjoy some unscheduled Taiko 3DS 3 talk!

From September 1st, a couple of song packs will be made publicly available, with the former having all songs that are somehow related to heroes and the latter delivering another load of WCS2016 songs for the first time in Taiko console grounds.

On top of that, there's an additional free song to download until October's beginnings! enjoy EZ DO DANCE while also reminding to get the previously-released free content until the end of August.

After the console front, it's time for the new collaboration corner which ties in Taiko no Tatsujin Red with the Tekken 7 arcade version's update, Fated Retribution.

For the Tekken side, this is translated into new custom elements for Banapassport players. Feel the magic of the April Fools-inspired Dokodon Fighters aestethics!

More specifically, each character can be equipped with Taiko gear while playing, mainly consisting of one of the Taiko siblings on their shoulder and a white Tatsu-Don t-shirt.

Some characters will also get their own custom Taiko avatar to overseer each of their very moves, like Heihachi Mishima down there!

Other Taiko-themed elements will be added to this Tekken arcade in general, such as the custom battle gauges shown earlier or pre-battle message plates like the ones below.

Before knowing what the Taiko series will get in return, there's the next Don Challenge talk to be digressed, whose 2-part outfit for the month will turn your drum into a cat! During September, grab the Cat Face by playing once with the arcade and buy the Cat Tail from the Rewards Shop in order to assemble the outfit combo.

Making its arcade debut with September 2016's DonChare is Namco Original Shining 65, of which we also talked about in a Song of the Week some time ago.

We now delve to the next update's content which, while not being defined by a release date yet, it sure is set to close some ends!

Among the newly-released songs are the massive Touhou collaboration track from the previous Niconico Chokaigi/Reitasai, a song from Tekken 7 FR for the newly-announced collaboration and two popular songs provided by Cranky, with both his first Namco Original and the very first BMS song ever ported to the Taiko franchise.

If you're still in vein of the WCS2016 competition heat, by playing the Finals songs will be possible to unlock a couple of related clothing gear, in both Don and Katsu's color schemes.

Another aspect being enhanced with the same update is the Banapassport-exclusive Tokkun Mode, which will have some extra markers to keep track of the player's progress and the notechart details in general. From left to right, the newly-added markers are:

  • Number of drumroll hits by the player
  • Current beat stanza's number/Overall number of beat stanzas in the song
  • Drumroll start marker
  • Go-Go Time Tracker

Red Version's Dojo Ranking and Taiko School will also be added... After all, why else did the Team would do an hour-long explanation of the new mode for?!?

Looming over the players' heads for the time being are also a couple of events with Dokodon! Mystery Adventure and the Touhou Arrange trend. While we already all about the former, the bullet hell-related event will have some more unadvertised elements for its Red Version rerun!

Together with the new elements we already knew from the past Reitasai's footage (namely Flandre Scarlet and the Komeiji sisters as Petit Charas), the returning event will also see the coming of six new Touhou-related title parts and two additional mystery Petit Charas.

This Touhou Project event will go live after the next update, and will last until the next one.

After that all the main arcade talk is dished out, it's time to officially welcom this broadcast's special guest: t+pazolite! He even exited and re-entered the room to make the official introduction more official-looking.

The popular HARDCORE TANO*C composer has joined the Team to unveil his very next song for Taiko no Tatsujin, whose title actually challenges some of our humble blog's capacities...

As there's no Unicode equal for the empty Heart symbol, it's possible that many of you can see three horizontal lines instead of a heart in each page where it's featured for a song title. Rest assured we'll try to find a suitable solution to this issue in the coming months...

But before that, why don't you have a sample of the new song by yourself? After all, it doesn't happen every day to see a song whose title calls to mind to one of our contributors's nickname!

After talking a bit about the new song, the Taiko Team portion of the livestream has ended. With t+pazolite around, you know what this usually means...

After a !!!Chaos Time!!! that is big enough for both Taiko ans Synchronica teams to join the fun, the last-hour block featuring Bandai Namco's other arcade music game series began. While -again- nothing of Taiko pertinence was announced, we might as well share the reason behind t+pazolite staying for the ending portion of the livestream...

Namely, this trio of songs! Among September's 5 new song announcements, 3 of these were for t+pazolite songs, featuring one new track specifically made for Synchronica gaming and two of his most popular releases being published in some of his past albums.

For the latter category, we happen to find the replay2014 version of Kick-ass Kung-fu Carnival (the head-starter of the Kung-fu song cycle of which Taiko's Shiny Kung-fu Revival is a part of) and It's a "10 Bats", with Rizma as the singer.

Synchronica's t+pazo song is titled Surf Zapping, which -unlike Doku L0CANdy♡- has been fully played during the final minutes of the broadcast. You can hear it too through the video below!

After some reminders about the ongoing Synchronica events and the game's first soundtrack, the broadcast meets its end. See you next time, when Lokamp will learn how to livetweet without delivering a load of typos and misspelling errors!

Continuing from Taiko Momoiro, the Rewards Shop is a service on the Donder Hiroba website, where players can access their play data and customize their costumes, Don-chan colors and titles. The shop makes use of the accumulated Don Points (which were useless in previous HD arcade firmwares after the counter was maxed out) by allowing players to use them as currency to buy things like costumes and costume parts.

All the not-limited items which were purchasable with Taiko White arcades can also be purchased by Banapassport newcomers on Taiko Red, as well as new items since the latest arcade firmware's launch.

List of titles in Taiko no Tatsujin (Red Version)

The title stem was introduced by a firmware update in Taiko 0, and gives players with access to Banapassports nicknames to put beside their usernames while they play, as a mark of their in-game achievements, much like in other rhythm games with user profiles. The titles can be interchanged in Donder Hiroba when you have obtained them, and the one currently selected will display on the arcade screen wherever the player name is. Some titles unlock hidden content like songs and costumes.

It is possible to get more than one title in a go by overlapping the conditions for unlocking them. In addition, for newer players, Don Points (DP) will also be given out for titles they get.

Almost all the titles from the White Version are available on Red ver. as well, with the addition of new title unlocks. Once again, titles are not ordered under a numerical order.

Titles are listed below, translated into English wherever possible.

List of Title Parts in Taiko no Tatsujin (Red Version)

$
0
0

From Momoiro Version 2.04 onwards, arcade Banapassport players are able to set titles for their personal nickname either with one of the titles previously unlocked by doing specific tasks or by creating a new one by scratch by using specific title parts.

These title parts are basically divided into two different groups: nouns and phrases ('Group A') and symbols or connectives ('Group B'). Players can use up to 2 words from Group A and a symbol/connective from Group B to construct a custom title, following the scheme A-B-A. Any spot of said scheme can be left blank and the slots for Group A words can be filled with the same word.

While all the units from Group B are unlocked by default, players have to get the title parts from Group A through the rewards shop. Certain Group A parts can be unlocked only by achieving specific goals just like regular titles, whose unlocking requirements are explained into White Version's unlock page.

Below there is the full list of title parts achievable on Taiko White Version from both groups, listed under the related Title Parts Gacha that grant the unlock of the title part. Title parts marked in red cannot be purchased through the Donder Hiroba/Rewards shop and have to be unlocked individually. Empty Space and Blank entries for both the groups are not listed.

With Daifuku on the helm for the weekly blog update, today we're getting the Taiko Team's visual recap of the past livestream with higher-quality pictures of all the slides that have been used during the past broadcast, together with the Taiko gal spreading a little bit of the infamous tag symbol for Internet social media means.

No release date for the next arcade update has been given yet, but at least now we know when the next livestream session will happen: September 30th! If you want to suggest some topics to talk about or want some early snippets in general, the Taiko Team's Twitter account will be the main solution to both needs.

Taiko no Tatsujin x Tekken 7 FR Campaign: The Fighting Schedule

Together with the Taiko Team's Development blog, the Tekken gaming's official webspace (in Japan) gets a new entry today in order to explain in great detail the Tekken side of the Taiko no Tatsujin collaboration that has been announced last week.

As the label above tells us, the campaign for the Tekken 7 Fated Retribution arcade will last from August 31st to September 30th, with plans of both limited unlocks and new permanent purchasable items for the Banapassport-exclusive Fight Money Shop feature. For the latter, it will be possible to purchase an array of Taiko-themed stickers since the campaign's beginning, starring these familiar Taiko characters:

Together with these, the Taiko no Tatsujin Player Panel (on top) and Player Message Panel (at the bottom) will also be new permanent shop additions:

From September 7th, three new clothing item combos will be added to the Fight Money Shop for all characters to enjoy, with the White Tatsu-Don T-shirt and a floating Taiko drum whose facial expression changes during (and after) the battles. Together with the usual Taiko siblings Don-Chan and Kat-Chan, we'll also have a Heihachi Mishima-inspired drum that goes under the name of Iron-Chan (鉄ちゃん), named after the Tekken series' Iron Fist Tournament.

Also in the same day is starting a special mission for Banapassport fighters, which will let them unlock this Taiko-themed stamina gauge by playing Tekken 7 FR 10 times in a single day.

tk75_taiko_8

The week after, from September 15th, three additional limited missions will be added for more timed unlocks, letting players get custom hit effects with Don, Katsu and the Ms.Cat & Mr.Spoon couple by playing respectively 5/10/15 times in a single day. This trio of missions and the Taiko stamina gauge one will last until the campaign's ending period.

This Tekken blog entry also mentions the other end of the collaboration with the BGM song Abandoned Temple Final 2nd becoming a playable song on Taiko Red Version, but no release date for the music game franchise are given yet... We'll probably have to wait for an official announcement from the Taiko Team itself.

Song of the Week! 27 August 2016

Continuing from the past week's theme, here's another song coming from yet another 6th Taiko game release... this time from the console front!

 My Way Def Tech
Version
Allx3 (114)x3 (183)x5 (359)x6 (437)
 Taiko PS2 6

More to the point of console gaming often having exclusive tracks for a long period of time, Taiko Rokudaime is currently the only place where it's possible to drum our way through one of the biggest hits from the Japanese independent unit Def Tech.

Officially founded in 2005, this Jawaiian reggae ensemble is made of two members who take care of every aspect about their songs' creation: Hawaiian-grown Shenan 'Shen' Brown and Japanese Yuki 'Micro' Nishimiya (西宮佑騎). Under the band name suggested by vocalist Jesse from the band Rize, Def Tech's musical production is mostly featured in their studio albums, counting (up until this post's publishing date) 8 releases under both the independent label Mind Shift Music and the more-widespread Universal Music one. The band split up on September 2007 due to Shen and Micro's many arguments on how the unit's musical direction should be, but it was reunited on June 2010 and it's currently in activity non-stop since then.

Some of Def Tech's earliest releases were made even before the unit's official foundation, sometimes paired with music videos as well; as Shen and Micro's very first jointed creation, My Way is surely part of this category, with its more "official" debut made with the self-titled debut album Def Tech, released on January 22nd. With My Way's musical video getting published the year earlier and the Def Tech debut album's sales surpassing the 2 million sales along the years, the songg got a lot of recognition and awards in its launch year despite its early January launch, with My Way topping J-WAVE Tokio Hot 100 Awards in the 'Best Song' and making Def Tech themselves being nominated as the 'Best New Artist' winners by the same billboard. Other appearances of the song in pop culture in some part include a collaboration with DJ SOULJAH for the song Transformer featuring part of My Way's lyrics, as well as the song itself appearing for NHK's Red and White Singing Contest in 2005 as the first song coming from an indie band (and ultimately winning it!).

Notechart-wise, reggae music in Taiko is mostly rendered like early rap songs with lots of dense note section with either singles or double hits for most of the chart. Watch out for the song's latter half, though, as longer and slightly more complex clusters are still able to throw off un-experienced player even with the current 6-star Oni standards!

Speaking of something else related to the number six, we're still on with our plans for our recurring Anniversary celebrations! Unfortunately, however, multiple events and adverse IRL situations from our part has forced us to delay said events multiple times, leading to this very day.

With that said, you might hear something more on this topic from us tomorrow! Until then, I renew our apologies for our silence on our usual anniversary charades...

Over 6 years have passed since aquabluu/pikaby organizing the very first Taiko game songlist and yes, we're still going strong! As per tradition for us, we would like to thank our readers for their support to our blog through a handful of events and tweaks that we hope will make your browsing experience a more pleasant one.

Starting from the returning events, we'll have very soon the return of the Taiko Time Anniversary Quiz to once again test your knowledge of the franchise! Also to get everyone to actually play some Taiko, for the sixth year let's test out an format with a pilot Taiko Time Anniversary Tournament! Send us your submissions to either of the events in order to have a commemorative item from us for our 6th anniversary celebration. We're also having a brand new Feature article about Taiko console gaming as a whole!

Finally, we're going to add to our Others section the links to all our past Feature and Sympho-Neighbours articles for posteriority's sake, starting from our next Feature's posting date! During this transition, one of the former SN releases -namely the one titled 'Summer Scars'- will be re-branded to Sonority Scouts due to its more-contemporary nature rather than acting as an "historical archive" post.

Thanks again for your support, and keep on drummin'!

(2) "Thank god you're back! I can't find anything last year and was in such a pickle! The last time I stumbled upon one of those Series pages but I forgot which exactly. What I do remember is that:
  • more than half of the songs have English letters in them, but not all the songs do
  • among all the latest Oni ratings, there are more 8s than 7s, and more 9s than 10s
  • at least one song from the series appeared in 9 out of the 10 arcade firmware versions.
Oh no I gotta go now, so just tell me how many 5-star ratings are among the latest ratings of this series, Thanks!"

(3) Sympho-Neighbours and Sonority Scouts are new this year! Name four music/rhythm games that do not share any song with any Taiko no Tatsujin game ever.

(4a) Assume you live in the Saitama region, and one arcade center near your residence (i.e. you can walk there and not have to pay for travelling) has AC0 cabinets that runs on 100 yen for 3-song credits and Tokkun Mode at 290 Banacoins extra. Assume you also have all of Wii U, 3DS and PS Vita consoles but you do not have any of the Taiko games. What is the highest number of times you can play Yuugen no Ran on those AC0, for the same money you would need to buy the cheapest access to Yuugen no Ran on any one console?

(4b) Now assume you live in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong and is close to Namco Wonder Park Plus in World Trde Centre, and the same prices apply (except Hong Kong does not have Tokkun Mode), what is the maximum number of times here then?

(5) Name two songs featured in videos that went viral in a "look at this guy playing Taiko in this awesome/crazy manner" fashion.

(6) All but one out of the following J-POP and Anime genre songs have/had been subject to copyright takedowns or muting in relation to Taiko no Tatsujin. Choose the one song that has been takedown-free.
  • Blue Bird
  • Telecastic fake show
  • ANTI-HERO
  • PON PON PON
  • Ikenai Borderline
  • Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari
