Dance forth, burn up the cocoon and become the butterfly

Like the moon drifting over a faint haze
The passion since removed from deep inside the eyes
Has it been fate to be attracted to go together
No time even to drift and waver

Dance forth, and let wings spread out from within this arm
Set ablaze, let it going up in flames
It's better to have this body burnt down by itself

The fascination of rotting melancholy lingers
Glossing the tears too

Let us dance forth, dancing the steps, at the banks of the Mitsusegawa river
Love and dreams scattered in flecks
Set ablaze, let the dyed wishes rise
To the end of this world of beauty, to eternity

A quick tidbit for today, coming from yesterday's Taiko Team social media activity! While no dates are being spread as of now, it's been notified that the next Yellow Version software update will also bring in the Autumn Rewards Shop lineup for players of both Japan and general Asia to enjoy.

Given that this tweet has been pinned and that the current Rewards Shop lineup was introduced almost 3 months ago, it's a safe bet to assume that further details are expectable later this week...

As foreshadowed a few days ago, here we are with a blog post about the next arcade update schedule! Will it only feature the Autumn Rewards Shop stuff or there's actually something more...?

The Touhou-related collaboration scenario chimed from a few months ago is about to come full circle, with the 9th-anniversary edition of Cirno's Perfect Math Class coming to public Taiko arcades! Together with that is also coming another IOSYS-forged track that was specifically made for a Taiko no Tatsujin debut and a couple of songs from the Taiko-newcoming Akatsuki Records unit.

Ura modes are scheduled for both Cirno's Perfect Math Class ⑨ Anniversary Edition and Futari no Kessho -INNOCENCE-, the latter of which will also bear custom 2P notecharts on all not-Oni modes.

Coming to the latest seasonal Don Points-related shop, we're going to have a 50/50 deal within new songs and returning tracks from console grounds, with previews for all the tracks already available in Bandai Namco's Youtube channel. For this recap, however, we have only listed video links for the brand-new songs's previews.
(I mean just give a look at how is coreographed DJ Myosuke's song preview and you won't need anything else, trust me)

One exception to this, however, is for the third Daisuke Kurosawa-contributed NO song in Taiko, for which we'll redirect you to the full song instead! R.I., in fact, was already posted on INSPION's Youtube channel some days ago.

It comes without saying, but the currently-ongoing Summer Rewards Shop will be discontinued on the same day, so players have a few days left to gather the leftover rewards from the current lineup.

New Dojo Ranking and DR Gaiden Trials: September 6th, 2017 (Yellow ver. G/V 6.xx)

At long last, the final four main Dojo Ranking challenges for Yellow Version will make their triumphant debut in the latest update! As usual, partial name drops and no clearing conditions are supplied to prep the most daring of players to the hardest arcade test yet.

Together with the final main trials, the Gaiden course Challenge! World Championships EX ② (挑戦!世界大会2016 EX②) will also be available from the same day, with no removals for the former Gaiden challenges.

New Collaboration: Touhou Project x Taiko no Tatsujin (September 6th-October 9th, 2017)

The return of new custom arrangement from Team Shanghai Alice's indie bullet hell series will also mark the return of a tie-in event with Taiko no Tatsujin! Further details will be provided in another blog entry, soon enough...

As a last-hour disclosure, this update will also introduce some unlockable titles  that will be granted by achieving full-combos in some of the newly-introduced songs.

See you on September 6th, when this update will go live!

Continuing from today's previous blog entry, here's a full rundown of the returning campaign that ties in Taiko no Tatsujin with the Touhou Project arrangement scene! For future reference, a dedicated website was also made with the content that is also spotlighted after this jump

Part 1: New Songs

Since the campaign's beginning, four new Touhou Project-related arrangements will be available to play in the arcades: two songs by Akatsuki Records, the 9th-anniversary edition of Cirno's Perfect Math Class and another song for the ice fairy that was specifically made for Taiko gaming!

Part 2: New Petit Charas and Title Parts

Just like in the former two collaborative editions of this event, players can earn event tickets by playing any Touhou arrange track on Yellow Version (1 per credit play with min.1 Touhou song), which can be exchanged for one random Petit Chara or title part available in the pool. Together with the newcoming characters below, let it be known that the full roster from the previous editions of the event will be featured as well!

From left to right/top to bottom: Sunburnt Cirno, Youmu Konpaku, Aya Shameimaru, Sanae Kochiya, Reisen Udonge Inaba and Hata no Kokoro

Part 3: Blue Reimu Petit Chara Lottery

For this 3rd collaboration, there won't be an upper ticket limit for the players, as these can also be spent for a chance to win the blue-clothed variant of Reimu Hakurei, straight from the previous Taiko no Tatsujin stand promotion at Reitasai '17! During the campaign period, it's possible to join a special lottery in the Donder Hiroba page by spending one event ticket for each application.

Players can purchase as many lottery application as they want, and after the 3rd Touhou Project campaign's end, the Taiko Team, will pick 300 randomly-chosen unique players to be sent the limited Petit Chara in a later date.

Song of the Week! 2 September 2017

For this week's feature, we've been tasked to talk about a certain couple of Namco Original tunes that are related to each other, as a birthday gift to one of our longtime-following users...

...who are we to turn down such a request?

 Jikuuchou Jikuu 1-ka (時空庁時空1課)feat. unmo
Version
Allx4 (186)x6 (300)x8 (602)x9 (836)
 Taiko 0 S, Taiko 3DS 2, Taiko Wii U 2, Taiko +

 ji9cho

By demand of chatbox user kathy, we're here to day to talk about the 'Jikuuchou' Namco Original song duet, a couple of tracks that share two distinctive traits: they're both songs talking about the everyday life at a fictional Space-Time Agency from the future and they're both composed and charted by Kawagen Collagen. In fact, Jikuuchou Jikuu 1-ka has been his very first case for the artist of an original song for Taiko gaming he both composed and charted! This is also the 2nd Taiko song to star the nicknamed unmo as the singer.

Sorairo Version's last Don Challenge unlockable tune, Jikuuchou Jikuu 1-ka sings of the activities that are handled in the 1st time division of the aforementioned Space-Time Agency, as the song's title itself is a descriptor of said division listing, 'Space-Time Agency 1st Time Division'. Years after its arcade debut, it managed to land on both mobile and Nintendo console front, although its release on the 2nd Taiko 3DS videogame has to be considered as a feat of the past, as the DLC song pack bearing the track is not available to download anymore.

Bearing a note-dense notechart without special markers that would make it look like a distant cousin of Metal Police's Ura Oni, this song's Oni chart is out on its way to throw as many curve balls as possible with the song's instrumental accompaniment, while sticking to the 1/16 charting format for the most part. Consecutive, post-Go Go Time note clusters are set to become a nightmare for those who can't keep up with same-rhythms repetition, and even the 2nd iteration of the song's chorus isn't exactly played like the 1st chorus, as normally expected in a lyricized song!

Jikuuchou Sousa 2-ka (時空庁捜査2課)feat. Sachi (Harineko)

The second song of this couple handles a different sector of the fictional Space-Time agency, as this time around there's a title mention to a '2nd Investigative Division'. Much like Jikuu 1-ka, this second track also happened to be released as the final Don Challenge unlock of Kimidori Version, the 3rd-generation Taiko arcade firmware that hosted its debut. This tidbit is also noticeable by taking a closer look at the song's lyrics, as an extra layer of care was put so that the first Japanese letter of each group of 4 lyric verses could spell out 'Kimidori'! (or simply 'Midori' in the only 3-verse lyrics stanza)

Sousa 2-ka features a different singer from the previous track, while also marking her first overall Taiko contribution: the nick-named Sachi (沙知) (Twitter). Nothing much is known about the artist's history and experience portfolio prior to the 2010s, but we can state that her first major musical experiences are dated to the year 2013, with the founding of the Harineko (ハリネコ) act. Said unit was born as a solo-performing effort, with Sachi both composing and singing to her creations, but it eventually grew up to host a number of transitional members for the creation of several songs. In more recent times, the act has changed its wording with its lower-caps English equal ('harineko'), as Sachi herself started to be credited in different projects with her English-lettered alias of 'SaChi'. Other rhythm gaming contributions from SaChi thus far include the Synchronica song Minna no Uta (みんなのうた) and, of course, the newly-announced Namco Original FooFoo Cassette, which is coming out next week as part of Yellow Version's seasonal Rewards Shop renewal.

Back to Sousa 2-ka, the lower Oni mode rating is justified by a more regular barrage of note clusters that, while flowing at an higher pace than in Jikuu 1-ka, are mostly grouped in backbeat-based, repeating formations. As a testament to the charter's care, Kawagen Collagen revealed that his charts have to be made in a way that makes himself happy with the end result before anything else, often quoting Jikuuchou Sousa 2-ka as an example of that sentiment for the fact of avoiding the creation of a triple digit notecount Oni song "just for the sake of it" as opposed to how does the chart resound with the base track overall.

Vocaloid Corner: flower

Branded with the product name of v flower (ブイフラワ, with 'v' simply standing for Vocaloid), flower is a Japanese VOCALOID3 voice bank that was released in May 2014. While it was originally made as a collaborative effort between YAMAHA CORPORATION and Gynoid Co., Ltd. (together with the Chinese Vocaloid Xin Hua), its current VOCALOID4 iteration was entirely made by Gynoid.

The official description of flower's character lists her being a Kuudere, the Japanese word describing the trope in media that indicates a person that, while appearing cold-hearted and indifferent on the outside, is actually a very sensitive and emotional individual that hides her feelings under a not-caring facade. Her own name is a testament to the character's will to let herself "bloom" like a flower among the other Vocaloids with her songs. For the time being, flower's voice provider has not been revealed yet.

flower's bloom in Taiko gaming happened during the Yellow Version arcade transition, with one of the first 1+ million views songs that star the Vocaloid.

Touhou Corner: Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom

    $

    0

Released on August 14, 2015 in occasion of the 88th Comiket, Touhou Kanjuden (lit. 'Ultramarine Orb Tale') ~ Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom (東方紺珠伝 ~ Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom) is the 15th main-line vertical danmaku Touhou Project game.

Following the events of the fighting spin-off game Urban Legend in Limbo, a spider-looking probe crashes in Gensokyo, roaming around the land and withering everything on its passage. Once that the recluded-on-Earth Lunarian people living in Gensokyo found out that this attack was launched by other Lunariarns in an attempt of 'land purification', the Lunarian pharmacist Eirin Yakogoro tasks one of the game's four heroines (Reimu, Marisa, Sanae and Reisen Udongein Inaba) to stop the assault from its roots. The expedition will lead the chosen heroine to the Moon, finding out that the attempted Gensokyo offence was the side-result of a long-lasting war between Lunarians and the sagacious spirit Junko, whose grudge against the Lunarian deity that killed her son has led to her complete refinement as a spirit of pure resentment towards the pluri-millennial Moon civilization.

The main feature sported in Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom is the addition of Pointdevice, a new gameplay mode to go along with the usual arcade-styled one (here dubbed as 'Legacy mode') where the usual life/credit model is instead replaced with a quick-respawn system that breaks down each of the main game's stage into chapters; every time the player dies, he/she's sent out to the most recent checkpoint instead, with the same amount of bombs and a slightly-reduced firepower stock. The scoring system is reliant on both the enemy takedown percentage and, once again, bullet-grazing action, which can reward the most skilled of players with either extra Bomb pieces (Pointdevice) or Life pieces (Legacy) once that a fixed point threshold is reached at the end of a chapter.

After the rise of a wide assortment of die/respawn games such as the infamous PC platformer I Wanna Be The Guy, Team Shanhai Alice's ZUN wanted to try to implement a similar system to one of his Touhou games while having an actual story explanation in-game as to why the player is granted the power of infinite attempts; for Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom's Pointdevice mode, that is the case of the titular Ultramarine Orb elixir that is able to grant such powers. Among the many official Touhou Project games, this is the very first one that doesn't feature English titles/subtitles for any of its overall score's tracks.

The legacy of the 15th main Touhou title in Taiko gaming is currently represented by a single track among the most popular fan-made music arrangements.

It's arcade update day once again! After the jump await all the brand new song inclusions.

Cirno's Perfect Math Class ⑨ Anniversary Edition (チルノのパーフェクトさんすう教室 ⑨周年バージョン) (3/4/5/9; 751 notes on Oni)
Teased since Yellow Version's launch, the 9th anniversary version of IOSYS's Touhou arrange cold classic has finally hit the public arcade scene! Being a newly-lyricised version of the original, it's reasonable to expect that many cluster segments in there tend to mimic the ones of the original song. That, however, doesn't stop the track from featuring extra flairs that span outside a revised notechart, such as absurdly high and low scrolling speed/BPM combos!

Cirno's Perfect Math Class ⑨ Anniversary Edition (チルノのパーフェクトさんすう教室 ⑨周年バージョン) (10* Ura Oni with 909 notes)
The same "Like the original, but add more!" notechart formula of the song's regular 4-mode set is also applied to the Ura Oni difficulty, bearing more note-dense cluster formations as well as the most recent unbreakable hit-balloon in Taiko notecharts talk, bearing as much hits to be cleared as the Ura Oni itself's number of notes.

       Ganzo! Genius Cirno-Chan☆ (元祖!天才チルノちゃん☆) (4/6/6/9; 859 notes on Oni)
The same music track from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil that is used as the model for both versions of Cirno's Perfect Math Class is also the source of this never-heard-before arrangement, which on Taiko notechart talk fares as as another stamina-drainer challenge, with slight tempo changes before the song's pivotal portions and odd-numbered note clusters a-plenty!

WARNINGxWARNINGxWARNING (2/4/5/9; 756 notes on Oni)
While not being as difficult as dodging sudden side lasers with a spoonful of random stars, Akatsuki Records' popular theme arrangement of yet another fairy in Touhou lore fares in Taiko terms as a straightforward 1/16 cluster challenge that doesn't shy too far from the former 9* Oni chart trends of former Taiko generations.

Futari no Kessho -INNOCENCE- (二人の結晶-INNOCENCE-) (3/4/4/8; 581 notes on Oni)
The last Touhou-y track of the day is another one of those that comes from Team Shanghai Alice's musical albums, rather than the actual games. Lots of repeating note formations and a charting style that is more akin to the Taiko games' Anime genre are the distinctive flairs of this Variety addition.

Futari no Kessho -INNOCENCE- (二人の結晶-INNOCENCE-) (7* Ura Oni with 554 notes)
Much like with other recent Ura Oni tracks like Aozora no Rhapsody, the Ura Oni's charting direction for this song follows more the instrumental base rather than the vocals, which made in turn the addition of another Oni track that actually bears a lower star rating than its regular counterpart.

Plus, it turned out that this is also the latest Sou-Uchi-styled notechart to appear, with the custom 2P charts (video still unavailable) reaching 553 notes.

FooFoo Cassette (FooFoo カセット) (4/6/6/9; ?? notes on Oni)
      *video and song description pending*

       R.I. (5/7/8/10; 925 notes on Oni)
The latest song to come out from the INSPION talents, R.I. places itself as the middle road between high-base BPM tracks and note density, for a guitar piece that still constitutes a challenge for trainee hand-switchers while not necessarily having the aggressive average speed of relentless tracks like Infinite Rebellion.

HARDCORE no Kokoroe (HARDCOREノ心得) (5/7/8/10; 885 notes on Oni)
Last in line for today is the Taiko debut of Dj Myosuke from the HARDCORE TANO*C label, whose launch song is also featured in Yellow Version's Meijin Dojo Ranking! Lots of manual BPM changes and scrolling speed trickery are in motion during HARDCORE no Kokoroe, alongside a modern mixture of different cluster spacing combinations for good measure.

Taiko no Tatsujin V Version's "younger adults"-oriented demographic targeting is surely being addressed, among other factors, by the unusual license acquisitions that have molded the crowd-pleaser J-Pop and Anime genres. To further go on with my point, here's a song whose Anime show has been originated by a popular adult visual novel series!

Originally released for PC by Type-Moon on January 30th, 2004, Fate/stay night (フェイト/ステイナイト) is a visual novel that is set in present-time Japan, in the city of Fuyuki. The game's story covers roughly two weeks of time in the everyday life of Shirou Emiya, a teenager who got himself involved in the 5th edition of the death-match tournament known as the "Holy Grail Wars", a fierce competition where powerful magus compete against each other in a last-man-standing affair, aided by the essence of a servant among many illustrious personalities in Human history and myths. The Holy Grail Wars winner will be able to acquire the eponymous legendary artifact, which is able to grant any of its wielder's wishes.

Fate/stay night's writer, the novelist Kinoko Nasu (奈須きのこ), wrote the original story during his college years as something that was not going to be turned in a game in the first place, but the once-doujin soft company Type-Moon commissioned Nasu to operate a visual novel transition of it as the company's first official title debut as a commercial organization, due to the success of the author's 2000 VN hit Tsukihime. The ultimate result of the process was a general revision of the author's original script as the so-dubbed Fate storyline, as well as the addition of two additional story paths as later-released DLCs for the player to partake in: Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel. Each of the three paths follow the general theme of "conquering oneself" under different layers and methods to approach the story itself's flow with the player's choices.

The audience and critic appraisal of Fate/stay night led to its routes to be ported into both anime and movie transpositions, starting with Studio Deen's 24-episodes run in 2006 which was primarily focused on the Fate storyline. On April 2007, the original VN game was adapted for a 15+ years audience and re-released as Fate/stay night Réalta Nua for PC, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Vita, including voice acting from the aforementioned Anime series precursor and all three story paths in a single physical release. From that point onward, the Fate franchise grew bigger and bigger with more VN-related releases, games that branched off into different genres (including action titles and a gacha RPG game which were also localized in several Western countries) and of course, more anime/movie ports of the first game's story lines.

The song ideal white comes from the 24-episode Anime series that focuses on the 2nd of stay night's story paths, Unlimited Blade Works. A follow-up to the 2010 Studio Deen movie about the same UBW story, the anime was realized by Type-Moon in conjunction with Aniplex, Notes and Ufotable, running from October 2014 and July 2015. In the bigger picture of this Anime series, ideal white is its first opening theme, created by the nick-named Carlos K. (composition, arrangement), Toshi-FJ (composition), meg rock (lyrics) and singer Mashiro Ayano (綾野ましろ) for the vocals.

Kawagen Collagen is ideal white's charter for its Taiko port, which features what is currently the 3rd-most note-dense Oni notechart for the 7-star tier, with an average of 5.65 hits per second. While no other attention-worthy elements are to be noted into the notechart composition, that trivia is surely something worth paying attention to, in order not to miss notes while listening to the song and floating on cloud nine with its charts!

We are only embedding the English trailer here, since it is the only one of the three that had gameplay footage re-recorded on some English version, outside reusing the live-action parts and audio from the Japanese trailer. And not just from the same taster version that people are seeing from conventions or events: this appears to be near full-release with DokuLO CANdy, Saitama 2000 and Mada Saitama 2000 on the song list, as well as VICTORIA in the Taiko Rank Match footage (complete with the facing alpaca costume).

While the song list has already been revealed by Taiko Team earlier and the alternate language versions appears to be safe in most regards, we do have have one new development from this announcement: The Classical ハンロック is put in English as Hung-rock on official press releases, which likely mean Hungarian Dance receiving the Tajima/Rock-omatopoeia treatment?

In other news, with Drum Session being Taiko no Tatsujin's grand return to Sony home console fronts, Sony has been putting this in their spotlight quite heavily, including PlayStation stage events in gaming conventions in greater Asia, as well as the PlayStation Experience event with exclusive producer appearance and this first clip ever of the Oni notechart for Tsunagare! Hirogare! Uchiagare! (★9, 776 notes):

Thanks Spotty Blue from the chatbox for the recording.
PS. We meant we couldn't justify well a standalone post just for this video, but a shout-out in tandem with other news is more than fine.

Taiko Plus/STH - Coin Exchange and Lottery Removal

In a less jolly manner of news delivery, last Tuesday it was declared through a couple of in-game notices that a couple of features in both versions of Taiko Plus STH are going to be removed in the coming weeks.

The first of the two is the Coin Exchange feature, which allowed players to purchase songs individually with in-game coins that are awarded after playing a track; said songs are a small sampling of the Gakkyoku Tori Houdai pool and can be only purchased to play for a limited amount of time, between either 7 or 30 days. Players will be able to purchase one of those tracks and enjoy their temporary availability until an unspecified date in Mid-October, when said coin-exchange mechanic (as well as coins) will be removed. All songs that are purchased prior to the removal will still be playable for the purchased time interval, and are discharged afterwards.

The same mid-October update will also remove the in-game Lottery, the feature which unlocks random rewards to players by paying the fee with its own point system. Points are awarded to players by clearing songs (higher amounts for the hardest difficulty settings), and this mechanic will stay even after the feature-removing update, complete with the player's current point total. However, the Lottery will be removed with the next app update, leaving only the already-claimed rewards to be downloadable after the mode's removal, by browsing in the player's Mail menu.

We would like to thank chatbox user Morris for the news notice!

We are back to tell you that the Taiko Team has uploaded full-version soundbites of the newer Namco Original picks on Yellow ver. Kinda sneaky because these were actually uploaded together with the Autumn Rewards Shop previews:

      Infinite Rebellion
      Kagami no Kuni no Alice
      Koi-kurenai

Meanwhile, the playlist now expands to also include preview videos (the aforementioned Autumn Rewards Shop previews). If you are the kind that likes to use this playlist up for a listening session, that would mean more (partial) songs for you too. Yay!

Taiko PS4 Update: Cross-Over Prerelease DLC Pack Incoming..?

If you happen to browse the English-friendly PSN store for Session de Dodon ga Don's page, you're now most likely to be facing this message on top, illustrating the pre-order bonuses of the digital version.

Alongside the two already-known prerelease song perks, however, now there's something else being added to the mix, which was never heard of before from the Taiko Team... We're talking about the last-line addition: the DEEMO Pack, which is most likely referring to the namesake mobile music game by Rayark where players have a wide selection of piano-based songs to perform by tapping a variety of markers. As we are a little more than a month from Session de Dodon ga Don's release, right now we can only wait for the Taiko Team to talk in detail about this potential crossover-y course of action.

Thanks to Bankslammer from the Taiko no Tatsujin Discord group for the find!

Taito's arcade branch of the Groove Coaster series is going to have a new shoot-em-up event for the reminder of September, and Taiko gaming is invited once again!... sorta.

What we mean by that is the coming of another song medley from Namco gaming that was created for the long-running drumming series! After the Dragon Spirit Medley, the Burning Force Medley is set to have its premiere in this series later this month, on September 22nd.
